Bush Yam Flowers, Rosemary Pitjara

Acrylic on canvas, 60cm x 89cm
Provenance: Gifted.

Born on the Utopia Station in the Northern Territory, Rosemary Bird Pitjara (Petyarre) is a member of a famous Aboriginal art family, that includes Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Jeannie Pitjara, Greeny Purvis Petyarre and Evelyn Pultara. Her skin sisters, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre and Ada Bird Petyarre, are also accomplished artists. Kngwarreye passed the dreaming of Medicine Leaves onto Pitjara and she captures the movement, depth and colour of the leaves throughout their life cycle. As a bush woman, she is familiar with her land and its abundance of bush tucker species, medicine plants and native fauna. These are important womens stories that she paints. (1).
